order to promote Sindhi culture, Sanskrit and language, and to bring about
more unity in the Sindhi community, and also to get legitimate political and

place, and continue to visit further cities/towns. With this object in mind, I

<span lang="EN-US">It was learnt from Govt. and private sources
that people staying in Rajasthan-Sindh border areas are normally speaking in
Sindhi or its dialects even in present times.
Hence just to confirm this fact and to study and survey the real
situation on ground level, (so that such favourable situation could be utilized
for betterment of Sindhi Community in future in the long run), I got the golden
opportunity to go to following 8 cities / towns of West Rajasthan during the
pious days of Sindhi and Hindu New Year of Chetichand (2014). Pre-arranged Meetings were held for 2:3 hours
in each place on my request with the office bearers of Sindhi Associations
(particularly Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha) wherein various matters were discussed
regarding unity, Sanskar and social service in the Community for its betterment
and to claim legitimate rights from Central Govt. after forming a co-ordinating
body or Mahasangh. Suggestions &
informations were collected, Sindhi & national literature was
distributed. There was good enthusiasm
(even more than that in earlier meetings), a great love & affection and a
good hospitality was extended to me everywhere which can not be described in
words. The names of attendees and their
mobile numbers were noted in all meetings.
One particular point which was noticed everywhere, was that the Murtis
of Bhagwan Jhulelal, are normally kept in particularly all Sindhis’ shops / offices
or homes for keeping Sindhi identity.
However wherever these murtis were in short quantity, they promised to
keep the same in near future. On the
whole Sindhis are generally well off financially at most of the places. Further report of each city / town in a
nutshell is as under:-</span></div>

Most of Sindhi families stay in Pawanpuri (446), Rath Khana (132), Dhobi

and remaining families stay in other areas.
They are mainly (90%) engaged in business particularly in Readymade
cloth, hosiery, shoes, etc. They have
good relations with local masses & command a good image in the city. They celebrate 4 annual functions, namely
Chictichand, Asu month’s moon, Chaliha Sahib and Sant Kanwar Ram’s Varsi. They arrange rally in the city with Jhankies,
Priti Bhojan and “Sindhi Bhagat.” Sant Kanwar Ram Sindhi Samaj Trust
Dharamshalla Mandir (Dhobi Talai) arrange Priti Bhojan on the occasion of Sant
Kanwar Ram’s Varsi. In addition to
aforesaid temple, the other temples are Shri Amarlal Mandir Trust & Sant
Kanwar Ram Seva Samiti Mandir (Both in Rath Khana). Here the Sindhis have numerous Sindhi
Associations which do a lot of Social Work in their respective fields and celebrate
annual functions with co-operation of one an other. The main among them are (1) Sindhi Central
Panchayat Sanstha (President – Shri Kishinchand Satyani, Vice President Shri
Lalchand Tulsiani), (2) Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha (P-Shri Shyamsunder Ahuja), (3)
Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha Yuva Morcha, Pavanpuri (P-Shri Tikam Parwani), (4) Matra

<span lang="EN-US">The chief Virtue of the Sindhis of Bikaner is
that they have prepared a huge ‘Rangmanch’ since last 14 years under the
direction of Shri Suresh Hindustani wherein so many Arts are created. They have made more than 100 dramas (i.e.
Maharaja Dahirsen, Hemu Kalani, Karo Sago, Shahadat, Chief Minister, etc.)
which have been shown in more than 40 cities / towns of India and have been
suitably rewarded. Similarly the dramas
“Sujanapa” and ‘Chikha’, as directed by Shri Nanik Hindustani, have been
suitably rewarded. Thus it will not be
exaggerating to state that Sindhi Rangmanch of Bikaner has built a separate
special identity in the country and Shri Suresh Hindustani has proved to be a
famous Director in the country. (He is
also a good worker of Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha).
The other Sindhi Associations in India get inspiration from this Sindhi
Organization. The worth seeing ancient
places of Bikaner include Jhunagadh Fort & Museum, Lalgarh Fort &
Museum, Karni Mata’s Temple at Deshnok, Naganechi Devi Mandir, Laxminath
Mandir, Kodamdesar Mandir & Talao, Kapil Munis Kolayat Mandir & Sarovar
etc. The camel ride of Bikaner is also
famous. Nearly 50% Sindhis here speak in
their mother tongue among themselves & at home. The 16 members were present in the meeting of
Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha on 19/03/2014 and 11 members were present in the General

gigantic and artistic town derives the population of 1 lakh along with 40
Sindhi families (250 persons). Out of
these 30 families stay in Gandhinagar colony.
Inspite of being in such a small number, they have created their
separate special identity in the town.
They are mainly engaged in business of Fruits, General Stores, Kriyana,
Vegetables, etc. Nearly 3% of them are
in service. They have made one Pujya
Jhulelal Sindhi Panchayat whose president is Shri Savaldas Varjani &
secretary is Shri Hiralal Sadhwani. The
later is also Sanyojak of Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha. The other Association here is “Sindhu Siksha
Evam Sanskritik Sansthan”, whose president is above named Shri Savaldas Varjani
& Secretary is Shri Asharam Mulchandani.
Both these associations alongwith Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha do some social
activities for the Community & celebrate annual functions with one an
other’s co-operation. They arrange
procession with Jhankies and Priti Bhojan on Chetichand day. They take out ‘Bahrana Sahib’ on every New
Moon Day right from the year 1998. They
also celebrate Hermu Kalani day (21st January), Sindhu Sumrati Day
(14th August) and Swami Teoonram Jayanti every year. Moreover ladies arrange satsang of Sri
Jhulelal and Swami Tenuram on every Friday and Saturday respectivley in
Jhulelal Mandir, Gandhi Colony. They do
not have any Sindhi Dharamshala at present.
However, they are aspiring for the same.
Accordingly they have purchased a 120 x 180 sq.feet plot of land for
that purpose, wherein they expect to make a beautiful Dharamshala with Temple
of Jhulelal Sai. It is expected that
some Philanthropist Sindhis will also
help them financially for its construction. They have full faith in Sai Jhulelal. In the year 2007 there was a famine & no
rain in this town and water in Garhisar Sarover was dried up. However surprisingly & suddenly rain
water came in Garhisar Sarover on New Moon Day (the day of immersion of Bahrana
Sahib) from 40 kms faraway place and thus they were able to immerse Bahrana
Sahib in this Sarover on that New Moon Day as usual! They speak mainly (90%) in Sindhi among

important worth seeing tourist places here.
Such as Jaisalmer Fort & Museum (which includes many jain &
other temples), Folk Lore & Desert Culture Centre Museum & maru
Sanskratik Kendra (in/charge N.K.
Sharma, email ID: <a href="mailto:deemsueum@yahoo.co.in">deemsueum@yahoo.co.in</a>)
wherein Puppet show is also shown daily on Rajasthani Culture. There is another Museum in its vicinity near
Garhisar Sarovar wherein Model of ‘Momal Meri’ (Palace) of ‘Jeejal Sindh’ is
kept wherein Kak River used to flow nearby in those days (as per literary
creation of Famous Sindhian Shakespeare poet Shah Akdul Latif). ‘Patwa havelis’ of Jaisalmer are very famous
throughout the world. Here the foreign
tourists prefer camel ride. Many Sindhi
tourists go to nearby Sindh Border from here; make camel ride and enjoy Sindhi
folk lore & Sindhi Sangit (Sung by Sindhi Muslims who make up & down
trips daily from Sindh). Here meeting
took place on 22/03/2014 wherein 19 members were present (including 11 ladies).</span></div>

The railway train going to Sindh, passes from this town and furhter via
Gadra Road & Munabao. The number of
Sindhis staying here is around 6000.
Most of them stay in Nehru Nagar (Sindhi Colony), Mahavir Nagar, Station
Para (a Sindhi word still retained), Kalyanpura, Seth Harumal Mohalla, Roy
Colony, etc. At least 80% of them
normally speak in Sindhi at home & among themselves. Some of them are in lower middle class
category. Nearly 2% of them are
engaged in service. The remaining are in
business of various varieties such as big Hotels, Readymade Cloth, Show Rooms,
Kriyana, Stationery, bakery, Vegetables, making military goods (being border
area) etc. Hence it can be safely said
they have control practically on every business of the town though they are
hardly 6% of the total population (i.e. like salt in wheat flour). Since there are mines in the vicinity of this
town and being a border area, nearly 400 factories of oil, coal, granite, POP
etc., have been established here by big companies. The town has a number of Sindhi
Organizations, who do a lot of Social Work in their respective fields and
celebrate annual function with co-operation of one an other. The names of such organizations are (1) Pujya
Sindhi Panchayat (Central) Barmes (President : Shri Naraindas Rajwani,
Secretary, Laxmandas Badlani), (2) Nehru Nagar Sindhi Uppanchayat (P-Sitaldas
Jivnani, S-Mirchumal Karipalani), (3) Mahavir Nagar Sindhi Uppanchayat
(P-Talloram Menghani, S-Ghanshyamdas Tansukhani), (4) Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha
(Pradesh P-Bhagwandas Tharwani, Distt. P.-sonu, Khemani and City P-Raju
Shahani), (5) Jhulelal Yuva Seva Samiti (P-Sunil Sev-Kani, Gen. Secretary,
Haresh Lalwani), (6) Jhulelal Mahila Seva Samiti (Smt. Nirmala Motiani &
others). Many Sindhi Mandirs are found
here such as Jhulelal Mandir (Gurudwara Road), Sant Rituram Mandir, Mata
Asribai Ramapir Mandir, Mata Dhilibai Mandir, etc. They have made 3 Bhavans, namely (1) Sindhi
Panchayat Bhavan at Gurudwara Road, near Rly Station, (2) At Nehru Nagar,
Sindhi Colony, (3) At Mahavir Nagar.
They celebrate many annual functions such as Jayantis of Guru Nanik,
Guru Gobind Singh & Baba Ramapir, Varsis of mata Asribai, Guru Nihalgiri,
Sant Reluram and Sant Uderdinomal. They
celebrate Chetichand on a grand scale for full one week. In the joint meeting of Pujya Sindhi
Panchayat & Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha on 24/03/2014 (wherein 22 members were
present including 8 ladies), they distributed the hand bills for Chetichand
Mela showing such programme from 28/03/2014 to 02/04/2014 for various
activities such as Rangoli Competition (for ladies), fancy dress competition,
moving chairs competition (for youngsters),
Antakshari. Sindhi Tok Show, Mata Ji Chowki, Kalash Yatra, Cultural
programme, Sanman Samaroh, Vahan Rally, Shobha Yatra with Bahrana Sabib,
Satsang (By Jhulelal Mandli) Bhajan Sandhya and Bhandara (wherein local people
also participate) etc. on different days & places throughout this
week. They close the shops for whole day
on this auspicious occasion of Chati Chand.
They announce this program in Sindhi language on the mike sitting in a
taxi in Sindhi localities daily throughout this week. The Sindhis of other cities can get
inspiration from such noble programs of Barmer Sindhis. They have cordial relations with local
masses. The worth seeing tourist places
here, are Shri Jogmata Mandir on the Hill (with 540 steps) along with Naganechi
Devi Mandir enroute. The other Mandirs
are those of Jains, Shivji, Mataji, Baba Ramdev, Guru Gorakhnath &
Mahalgiri Marhi, etc.</span></div>

above referred (Sr.No.2) Sindhi Cultural Society is worth noting here. Right from the year 1982 this Society has
been continuously and vigorously working for the advancement of Sindhi
Literature, Language, Art, drama and Culture etc. This Society has played so many dramas on the
stage before Public not only in Jodhpur City, but also many other cities in
India and thus has made their special identity in the field of drama
particularly among Sindhi Community.
This Society has also prepared a beautiful “Sindhu Kalash 2008” Smarka (Suvenir)
which includes among other things, the details of 300 Sindhis doing service in
the city. Today Sindhi culture is alive
mainly due to such associations.
Likewise, here other Sindhi Associations are also playing their
important role in their respective fields & celebrate annual festivals in
cooperation with one an other which can hardly be described here for want of

and arrange Priti Bhojan on the auspicious occasions of Chetichand, Guru Nanaik

They celebrate Chetichand on a grand scale in different localities of

town. In Sindhi Colony, they have

Jhulelal & other temples. They have
built Hemu Kalani Statue at Hemu Kalani Circle nearby. Moreover they have built 3 Jhulelal Temples
one each at Housing Board, Rly. Station area & P.N.T. Colony. They (Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha) have prepared
“Pali Shahar Sindhi Samaj Janaganna Smarka 2008” which gives useful information
of the Community. Further more <b><u>Sindhi language is taught here</u></b>
with financial help of NCPSL wherein 80-90 students pass examination and get
certificate every year. Moreover one
Sindhi Language subject of 50 marks (optional) is taught in 4 schools of the
town to the students of Class IX and X who take this subject instead of
Sanskrit Language (optional) subject and for that purpose students are
encouraged for which they are praise worthy (since unlike Sindhi Language,
Sanskrit is also taught independently by so many independent
institutions). Here the worth seeing

addition, they have formed many other Sindhi Panchayats with the names of
cities located in Sindh province. Such

associations in celebrating Chetichand & other annual melas, (15) Shri

practically all other Sindhi Associations of the city and thus it looks like a
Central Sindhi Panchayat. This
association also does many social activities (with coordination with other
organizations) such as arranging “Saumhik Vivaha” (joint marriages), ‘Parichaya

are Mehila Sangathan, Jhulelal Navyuvak Mandal, Sant KanwarRam Seva Mandal and
26 more Yuva Sangathans are formed in different localities in the city. Every association is working hard in doing
social work in its different field and celebrates annual functions in
co-ordination with other associations which cannot be described here for want

The main personality and a Doyen of Sindhi Community, i.e. Shri Prabhudas
Pahuja a 83 years old gentleman is staying here. He is founder President of above said
Jacobabad Sindhi Panchayat. He has done
neomen service to humanity and is held in high esteem even by non-Sindhis. Shri Gobindram Lakhani is editor of ‘Mewar

The head office of ‘Sindh Panchayat Samadhar’ (By weekly) (which is
published from Neemuch) is having its head office here. Its editor Shri Kamal Vardhani is staying
here. The Sindhis of this gigantic city
mainly (60%) speak in Sindhi at home & among themselves. 10% of them are in service, the remaining
are in business i.e. Kriyana, Vegetables, readymade, cloth etc. On the whole they control practically main
businesses of the city and command good respect in the Society which is a
matter of Pride for Sindhi community. It
is gratifying to note that here Sindhi language subject (Devanagiri Script) is
taught in 4 High Schools which are Residency Girls High School, Girls High
School (Bhopalpura), NavBharat High School and Sindhi Bhasini High School
(Pratapnagar). Many worth seeing tourist
places are found here in this nice city.
Such as Govt. Museum , City Palace Museum, ‘Sahaliyon ki Bari’, Gulab
Baug, Karni Mata Mandir (on a hill and by Ropeway), Maharana Pratap Smark,
Rajiv Gandhi Park, Mahatma Gandhi Udyan, Shilpgram,, nehru Garden (by
boat). In addition there are 5 lakes
here (Pishola, Fateh Sagar, Udai Sagar, Dudh Talai, Swamp Sagar) and therefore
this city is fondly and proudly called as ‘City of Lakes’. Many of these places can conveniently be
visited by conducted tours. Moreover
famous pilgrimage places like EKhigji, Shrinathji (Nathdwara) and famous
historical place ‘Haldi Ghati’ (wherein Maharana Pratap vigorously fought
Mughals) are located only at a distance of 50 – 60 kms. From the city. Here 14 members were present in the general

<div class="FSCBody">
<span lang="EN-US">As far as the question of Sindhi speaking
area on Rajasthan-Sindh Border is concerned, it is worth nothing that as per
Dr. Nanikram Israni’s (Ex-Chairman Raj Sindhi Academy) book ‘Bharat me Bhoomia
ji Khoj” and Shri Gyan Hemmani’s article, “Geographical Boundaries of Sindhi
Language” (visit: <a href="http://www.youngsindhis.blogspot.in/">www.youngsindhis.blogspot.in</a>)
and also as per Govt. sources, people staying in Sindh border area i.e.
Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Jalore districts of Rajesthan as
well as Kutch area of Gujarat (total area nearly 47000 sq. miles) normally
speak in Sindhi or its dialects (i.e. Ladi, Thari, Saraiki, Kutchi, etc.). These reports pertain to the period 20 – 25
years back. However, in my above
mentioned 17 days tour of 8 cities (particularly Jaisalmer, Barmer Jodhpur), it
was prima-facie learnt on ground level that the aforesaid Sindhi speaking area
is considerably being reduced year after year.
Muslim Bhils who migrated to Jaisalmer distt. in 1990 and used to speak
in Sindhi language, but nowadays they are speaking in Hindi & Urdu. Same is the conditon of Barmer Distt. Its main reason is that Rajasthan Govt. has
not opened Sindhi medium Schools in these border areas. Even previous such schools have been
closed. They have encouraged the
teaching of only Hindi language in the schools.
The less educated Sindhis of these area have, neither insisted on opening
of Sindhi medium schools nor for teaching Sindhi language as one of the
subjects in Hindi Medium schools. The
border of Sindh is at a distance of nearly 100 kms. from Jaisalmer & Barmer
towns. However, Sindhi language is being
spoken within 50 kms from the border (like Gadra Road, Munabao etc.) and one
gets the glimpse of Sindhi Culture even today.
Nearly 2 lakh Sindhi Muslims stay in Barmer Distt. Likewise they stay in sufficient numbers in
Jaisalmer Distt. They normally speak in
Sindhi. They (and some Hindu Sindhis)
are disciples of Pir Pagara (of Pir Jo
Goth, Sindh) and are ‘Sufi’ (liberal) minded.
The representative of Pir Pagara also stays in Jaisalmer town even now a
days. As per Archealogical deptt. and
others (in Jodhpur) Sindhi folk singers & Artists are counted as Rajasthani
folk singers & Artists, Sindhi music instruments are treated as Rajasthani
ones & so on. They have names &
addresses of 200 Sindhi folklore singers & artists and they are prepared to
give such Sindhi Cultural treasure to any Sindhi Organization if demanded by
them (As per abovenamed Dr. Nanikram Israni).</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="FSCBody">
<span lang="EN-US">Even now, it is never too late. It is high time to take advantage of the
above situation. Even now if any Sindhi
Organization moves in this direction by sending a special team to these border
areas, makes a thorough Survey and investigation of present actual situation on
ground level, more information is likely to come out. Then more action can be taken i.e. by
persuading Sindhi NRIS to open industries and make other facilities for
employment etc. available in these areas and then with the co-operation of
these Sindhi masses (sons of the Soil) and by making coordinating body of all
main Sindhi Associations of India & by making minimum common program (like NDA
/ UPA) by consensus, demand new Sindhi State from Central Govt. on the
Rajasthan-Sindh border as well as on an Kutch-Sindh Border even by amending the
constitution and thus all problems of Sindhi Community would be solved
automatically. (Since so many such
suggestions and establishment of Sindhi T.V. Channel etc., were received by me
in this aforesaid tour). Just as soil is
required for sowing seeds, likewise land is required for survival and
advancement of Sindhi language, culture and Sanskriti. Without such land how long can tree of Sindhi
Culture remain alive? Till such
consensus is achieved we can at least struggle & demand our legitimate
rights from the Govt. As we can not
forgive our pre-partition day so called ‘Sindhi leaders’ for not acquiring Sindh
Pradesh (on the lines of East Punjab & West Bengal) for not having
foresight, likewise if we do not take any serious & vigorous steps in this
direction within 10 – 15 years, the remaining Sindhi speaking areas on the
aforesaid borders will vanish and the coming Sindhi generation will curse us
for being passive. I am quite sure
that as we have passed the first examination of standing on our own legs
economically, we shall also pass in this 2nd exam of surviving and
advancing of Sindhi Language and culture, getting our legitimate rights from
the govt. and ultimately getting Sindh Pradesh in India, with the blessings of
Bhagwan Jhulelal. (For further

nearly 40 k.m. (inner Ring Road). These roads are connected with all the
different and far away localities of the Metropolis. In addition the arrangement of A.C. Metro

for the same. Every association has its
own office bearers and is doing so many social activities in its own field which
can not be discribed here in these columns for want of space - mention of one
such association here will be sufficient.
For example, old Rajindernagar Sindhi Panchayat and Sindhi Samaj
(Regd.). They have one Sindhu Bhavan which includes
Dharamshalla, Basement Hall, Jhulelal Mandir, Krishin Mandir, Pre-Nursery

(2) Hemnani Public School (Estt. 1978) wherein 850 students study in

as Sindhi education is concerned. More
over Sindhi Khojana (Research) Kendra and library are established by Delhi
Sindhi Academy in Sant Kanwarram mandir (Lajpatnagar). Sindhi Navjivan Sabha also has network of so

<span lang="EN-US">Recently I got the
nice opportunity to meet important Sindhis living in 8 cities/towns of Gujarat.
They were good enough to arrange long meetings of Sindhis at a short notice on
my request, for promoting our ancient culture, language and Sanskriti as well
as for getting legitimate political and other rights from the Central Govt. & for boosting the
morale of the Community. Moreover, Sindhi , National and Spiritual literature
was distributed. There was good enthusiasm, a great love and affection and a red carpet treatment
was extended to me everywhere too much to be described here. It is rare in big
cities like Mumbai. Moreover it surpasses the discomforts of travelling long
sojourns in Rly. Sleeper class (even sometimes w/o reservation) & getting
irregular outside food. The readers can
themselves verify by taking such sojourns. </span></div>
<div class="FSCBody" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="FSCBody" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 36pt;">
<span lang="EN-US">One particular
point which was noticed everywhere, was that the Murtis of Bhagwan Jhulelal are
normally kept in all Sindhi’s shops / offices or homes for preserving Sindhi
identity. However wherever these Murtis were in short quantity, they promised to keep the same in their premises
in near future. The other point worth noting
was that leaving apart Sindhi
Schools, even Sindhi subject is not being taught (except Vadodara and Nadiad)
in these towns/ cities which is
disheartening. Of course they mainly speak in Sindhi among themselves
and at home with some Gujarati words on their tongue. (particularly in small
towns & business people) & thus they have contributed to a great extent
in preserving our rich culture & language , which is a heartening point. However they are forgetting
Arabian Script day by day & only 10% know this script at present. They have cordial relations with
local people and command good respect
among them particularly when they are mainly in business and in some
cities they have a grip on main trades of the
city and they are mostly well off. The names and mobile nos. of
attendees in these meetings were noted in each city. The further report of each
city in a nut shell is as under: </span></div>

strength in this town is quarter to two lakhs
including 15000 Sindhis. The town has 2
Sindhi Panchayats namely, “Uttar Sindhi Panchayat” (President Shri.
Gordhandas K. Tulsiani) and “ Ladi Lohana Sindhi Panchayat” (President Shri.
Kishorilal Bhayani). In addition there is one Central Panchayat namely “ Godhra
Sindhi Samaj” whose President is same
Shri. Kishorilal Bhayani. These Panchayats do many social and cultural
activities and celebrate annual festivals in co-operation with one an other. They have one “Jhulelal Sindhi Dharamshalla”
along with Temple near old bus stand. An other Dharamshalla with Jhulelal
temple is situated at Civil Lines Panjrapol. In addition, they have two “Swami
Shantiprakash Satsang Halls”, one of these is situated near Yogeshwar Society at Bhuravav Road. They celebrate
“Chetichand” with a big procession with “Jhankies” and joint “Priti Bhojan”.
Moreover on other auspicious days like annual Guru Nanik Jayanti and monthly
“Ganesh Choth” also they arrange such Joint Priti Bhojan. </span></div>
<div class="FSCBody" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="FSCBody" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US"> One
important point which was noticed in this town is that they have strong bonds
of Unity (particularly in Ladi Lohanas). They are prepared to sacrifice their
life for one another, so much so that other communities do not dare to
challenge them ( particularly after 2002 Godhra train riots). Shri. Haresh
Dubey of Sindhi Council of India rightly puts it in his book (Political rights of Sindhis) “who says there is no unity among Sindhis?” Our community should
adopt this virtue of
these people. However it was seen that Ladi Lohanas do not
have matrimonial connection with other sindhis for which they were
requested to mix up with all Sindhis
in matrimonial matters also. They were also advised to issue their
panchayat circulars in Devanagiri Sindhi instead of Gujarati language in order
to preserve our ancient and precious Sindhi language. 40 members were present
in the meeting at Swami Shantiprakash
Hall at night on 08-11-2011 and 16 youngsters were present on the next day in early morning meeting on 09-11-2011 at the residence of
President Shri. Gordhandas K. Tulsiani. </span></div>

tourist spots such as Sayaji Garden, Museum, Zoo, Laxmi Vilas palace etc. and hence this city is rightly
called as “Kala nagiri”. Here 22 members were present in the evening meeting ,

they take out big procession with Jhankis of Gods in the town during day time and arrange
joint food in the evening wherein prizes are given to merit candidates.
They also arrange “Langar” (Bhandara) on Guru Nanik Jayanti during day time and
arrange cultural programme during night time. I also got opportunity to attend
this programme on this auspicious day ( 10-11-2011), at Guru Nanik Society. At
least 1000 persons attended this programme each time i.e. during day and night
and hence no separate official meeting
could take place with 23 official bearers and other members of Sindhi Panchayat for want of time, but
information was exchanged and get

Rameshbhai Hirani), 2) Sindhi Panchayat, Sant Kanwar Ram Sindhi society
(Present – Ashokkumar K. Balwani , Secretary – Santoshkumar Lotani) This
Panchayat has 22 families. 3) Sindhi Panchayat , Shahar (President- Dasbhai
Budhrani, Secretary – Vijay Chotani Advocate). This Panchayat has 30 families.
All these 3 Panchayats do many social
& cultural activities in their own field and also celebrate annual Melas
and other functions in co-ordination with each other. They were advised to start a Central Sindhi Panchayat also.
They celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti & Sant Vasan Shah Varsi by arranging Priti Bhojan. They also celebrate Chetichand
day and Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti by Priti Bhojan and procession in the Town.
This town is famous for temples. Such
has Guru Nanak Hall and Mandir (in Sindhi Colony) , Sant Kanwar Ram Hall and
Mandir, Lal Sai Mandir, Mataji’s Mandir, Gayatri Mandir, 2 Swami Narayan
Mandirs , 3 Gurudwaras, Pribhdas Ashram etc. The Historical “Dandi is hardly at
a distance of 16 Kms from here from where Mt. Gandhi had started Dandi March
(Salt Satyagraha) in pre – partition days. The meeting was held at the residence of President Shri.
Manghandas M. Kanjani on 14-11-2011 where in 19 members of abovementioned 3
Panchayats were present. </span></div>

<span lang="EN-US">This town of 2 lakhs population has only 140 Sindhi families. They have one recently started “Puj
Sindhi Panachayat Valsad” whose President
is Shri. Kishore D. Mulchandani & Secreatry is Shri. Pradip V. Vazirani.
They do not possess any Sindhi Dharamshalla but only one Jhulelal Temple at
Kailash Road, wherein they arranged for meeting on 15-11-2011 on my request , wherein 17 persons were present.
They are very anxious to do something
good for their brethren. Shri. Hindwani suggested in the meeting that whatever social work is aimed at & decided by the community , the same
should be followed up vigorously till the same is completed. They arrange Priti
Bhojan on annual functions such as Chetichand, Guru Nanak Jayanti and Akhand Tij. They normally speak
in Sindhi among themselves and at home. Hardly
few of them know Sindhi Script. They are shortly going to start Sindhi
directory of the town as well as other social and cultural activities. The Sea
beach from here is at the distance of 4
Kms only wherein Swami Narayan Temple, Sai Baba Temple and Shantiniketan
“Tithal” are attractive places. </span></div>

<span lang="EN-US"> Thus, I have given report of my sojourns to
over 100 towns / cities in these columns which are enumerated in my book
“Fragrance of Sindhi Community”. I strongly aspire at my heart that our
community should be united and we should
form a Co-ordinating body of all Sindhi
Associations in India by making minimum
Common programme on the lines of NDA/
UPA and persuade Govt of India to get
our legitimate political and other rights
and ultimately to get a Sindh Pradesh in India , with or without
land , for preserving our language, Culture and Sanskriti, as we are the
maximum sufferers due to partition of
India wherein , unlike Punjabies
and Bengalis , we did not get any Land. As we Sindhis have successfully
passed the examination of standing on our own legs economically and contributed
tremendously in all directions for the
good of the country by our self efforts, I am sure that we shall also successfully pass another
examination of achieving our legitimate
rights with the Grace of God and through our preservance and patience. In furtherance of these objects
, I have prepared above mentioned book and again contacted these 95 cities and collected relevant names and addresses
with Telephone Nos. of Important Sindhis
and office bearers of Sindhi Associationes ( as
corrected upto 01-10-2011) and put the same on my website <a href="http://www.fragrancesindhicommunity.blogspot.in/"><span style="color: windowtext; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;">www.fragrancesindhicommunity.blogspot.in</span></a>.
Moreover above 8 cities of Gujarat are also added to this website, in order to ensure that all
important Sindhis in all these cities / towns can be connected with one and other through the internet. The readers can
visit the website and give their
valuable views. </span></div>

<span lang="EN-US">This tiny town is
situated on Western Rly at a distance of 30 Kilometers from Bhavnagar. Its
total population is only 70,000 including 100 Sindhi families. The President
& Secretary of Sindhi Samaj, Sihor, respectively are Shri Gordhandas
Mewalamal Chawla and Shri Hareshbhai Narumal Chimnani. They have built Sri Guru
Nanak Sindhi Gurudwara in Sindhi Colony where they often meet together on
social, religious, happy and unhappy occasions. They are normally in different
businesses. Here the specialty of Sindhis is that they speak only in Sindhi
only at home and among themselves. Of course some Gujarati words have made
inroads in Sindhi Language due to the overall atmosphere of Gujarati language.
They celebrate the annual festivals of Guru Nanak Jayanti & Chetichand on a grand scale
e.g. by arranging "Akhand Path Sahib” for 3 days, keeping their shops
closed throughout the day, eating food together twice a day & arranging
procession in the town. Not only that, but they also arrange "Prabhat
Pheri" for 15 days in Guru Nanak
Jayanti. They also celebrate other annual festivals with much fun &
fair. They are strongly united. If any Sindhi is ill-treated by any local
person or if there is death of a Sindhi in the town, all the Sindhi shops
remain closed on that day. Thus they serve a good and inspiring example for the
Sindhis of other cities. However it is shocking to state here that I could not
find even a Single Sindhi person there who could read & write in Sindhi
Language or take free Sindhi Literature from me as all their correspondence is
in Gujarati language. They appreciated this & assured me to implement
shortly my suggestion of keeping Laminated Murtis of Sai Jhulelal at their
shops/ homes for keeping their identity in tact (on the lines of Bangalore Sindhi
Samaj). 17 important Sindhis attended the meeting for 2 hours on 22-04-09 and
their Tel. Nos were noted. The places worth seeing in the town are Sri
Gotameshwar Mahadev mandir & Sri Navnath Mandir.</span></div>

town has 7 Sindhi Temples which include 3 Sri Guru Nanak Gurudwaras, 3 Jhulelal
Mandirs and 1 Ganapati Mandir. All the Sindhis here speak in Sindhi only at
home & among themselves. It is gratifying to note that they have one Hemu
Kalani Sindhi High School wherein Sindhi (Devnagiri Script) is taught as one of
the subjects. Practically all are in different businesses. They celebrate
annual festivals such as Guru Nanak
Jayanti & Chaliha Sahib with "Langar Prasadi" (Preeti

auspicious occasion of Chetichand they take out procession with "Behrana
Saheb" on a large scale and serve "Prasad" to all passers-by
including local persons and all sindhis of the town take "Priti
Bhojan" (preeti bhojan) together, so much so that they don't light fire in
their own kitchen on that day. They are united and meet among themselves on
marriage and death occasions. They do much social work through their panchayats
such as giving financial help to 15 Sindhi poor families, giving prizes to
merits students, celebrating Sindhi week during Shravan month wherein they
arrange competition among Sindhi students, arrange medical camps etc. They have
good relations with local people. The town has many world famous Jain temples
worth seeing named Shrutunjay Giriraj temples (on a hill nearby) &
Hastagiri temples and a Shrutunjay Dam.</span></div>

with a total population of 1 lakh is situated in Gwalior Distt. The total
strength of Sindhis is 500 families. Shri Tikamdas Santwani is President, and
Shri Satypal Davani is Secretary of Puj Sindhi Panchayat, Dabra . They have 2
Sindhi Darbars, namely Sant Bhagatram Darbar & Seth Ladharam Darbar wherein
arrangement for marriages etc. is made with a total strength of 500 and 1000
respectively. These darbars also provide facilities and lodging. They have 4
sindhi temples. The Sindhis here are mostly in one or other business and nearly
90% of them speak in Sindhi with children at home and among themselves. The
city has Sant Kanwarram Mahavidyalaya and a Higher Secondary School under
Management of Sindhis but alas! Sindhi language is not taught there even as one
of the subjects. Hence they were persuaded to start Sindhi subject in future.
They celebrate important annual festivals such as Chetichand, Guru Nanak
Jayanti, Sant Godriwala & Swami Teoonram Jayanti. They take out procession
in the city on the auspicious occasion of Chetichand and they close their shops
& schools on that day. This day is also declared as a public holiday in
whole M.P state. Let us hope that our community will succeed in persuading
central Govt. to make this day a National Holiday in whole country under the
Negotiable Instruments Act. Shri. Dwarkadas Hakvani is Press Reporter. They
have published a beautiful Directory of Sindhis of the city. They are united
and mix with themselves on happy & unhappy occasions. Their relation with
local masses are very cordial. This Sindhi Panchayat is engaged in many social
activities such as helping in marriages of poor girls & widows, giving free
medicines to needy persons, serving drinking water to thirsty passengers
throughout the day and the year at railway station and also helping sindhi
needy passengers. In case of marriages of girls coming from other cities, the
total expenses of marriage are fully met by boy's side only which is rare in
our community. Sindhis of other cities can learn a good lesson from this
custom. They suggested that Sindhi Community should unite and forget all their

Moreover, Sindhi Dharamshala and Gurudwara are situated in Bajaria area. Nearly

lagging behind in using Sindhi Language (i.e. nearly 50%). Hence the importance

it would be seen that Sindhis are having blessings of Sri Laxmi Mata. However
they don't take interest in Political field or in running Sindhi schools,
(which I emphasized in the meetings). However they have been more or less
preserving our rich language of Mohen -Jo-Daro days by conversing in Sindhi.
Furthermore for keeping their identity, most of them are keeping Murtis of Sai
Jhulelal in their homes or shops / offices (as in case of Bangalore city
arranged by Bangalore Sindhi Samaj), which is a satisfying factor.</span></div>

ancient city (Avantika Nagri) is 8 lakhs including 25,000 Sindhis. They have 19
Sindhi Associations, each of them having contributed a lot in their respective
fields. The main organization among them are Sindhu Jagrat Samaj (President,
Shri Arjan Khatri), Sindhu Seva Ujjaini (President, Shri Tulsidas Dhanwani and

(President, Shri Vasu Khatri). Each of these Associations have published a
separate Sindhi Directory. They have built famous temples such as Alakh Dham in
Free Ganj whose Mahant is Swami Atamdas who is widely honoured by all of
them. Other temples (Jhulelal Mandirs)
are in Gordhandham Nagar & Satram Sindhi Colony. </span><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Recently,

Shri Nenumal Gagandas Jethwani Dharamshala (Opp. Alakh Dham in Free Ganj) and
Sindhi Hindu Dharamshala in Satram Sindhi Colony. Besides these, there are 3
other Sindhi Public places for happy and unhappy occasions and meetings such as
Jacobabad Sindhi Dharamshala & Puj Sindhi Sukkur Panchayat Dharamshala
(both at Boxipura) and Dhanwani Community Hall in Saket Nagar. They normally
don't speak in Sindhi but they have assured that they will put their best
efforts to speak in their mother tongue Sindhi. Though they have one school
managed by them, unfortunately it does not have any Sindhi subject for which
they were persuaded to keep Sindhi at least as one of the subjects. However,
one Sindhi luminary Shri Chimanlal Lakhani takes Sindhi classes on every Sunday
for 2 hours. The other famous Sindhi social and political worker is Shri Shiva
Kotwani who has remained as MLA for a long time. Though they have no Sindhi
Central Panchayat, Sindhu Jagrat Samaj arranges Chetichand Mela in coordination
with other Sindhi Associations, on a grand scale, such as with long procession,
Jhankies, Bhandara and musical parties. The other melas are Parbrahma (Chhadi)
'Sinhastha' and Kavi Kalidas Samaroha etc. They have given many valuable suggestions
such as constitution of a Sindhi All India Co-ordinating Body for getting our
Legitimate Rights from the Govt., starting Sindhi T.V. Channel etc. They have
also agreed to keep a laminated Murti of Jhulelal at each & every Sindhi
shop / office. At least 95% of them are in business and are well off
financially on the whole. The tourism Deptt. at Bus Stand, (near Rly. Station)
arranges daily Luxury Bus Service 'Ujjain Darshan' for 4 hours showing all the
important Tourist & pilgrimage places such as Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling, Har
Sindhi Mandir, Raja Bharthari Gufa etc.</div>

efficiently in its respective field in which ladies & youth are not lagging

& unhappy occasions - Sindh Hindu Panchayat Bhawan at Dayanand Chowk &
Sindhu Bhawan Trust (with a huge garden), at Ujjain Road. The temples here are
par excellence such as (1) Sindhi Gurudwara at Mohan Dham, Jai Prakash Marg,
(ii) Swami Parmanand Bhandar at Alankar Market, (iii) Shri Anandpur Trust at
Peetha Road, (iv) Sant Asudaram Seva Samiti at Vasudev Pura. On an average, 50%
of them speak in Sindhi. Almost all of them are in business and are well off
financially. There is no trace of Sindhi school or classes. However they have
surpassed other cities in celebrating Melas particularly 'Chetichand Mela' so
much so that our heart is dancing to participate in it even at the cost of
Mumbai Chetichand Mela! On such an auspicious day they close their shops, take
out a huge procession with 'Jhankies' and 2 'Langars' (one for them & one
for poor people) and arrange Cultural Programme for 5 continuous days. The
famous Mumbai Builder & Sindhi Social Worker Narsingh Golani's name was
respectfully taken by them. They also celebrate Diwali Milan, Devi Mata's 'Jagran'
and 'Visarjan' (in which they are second to Calcutta City only). 2 Press
reporters Shri Ramesh Talreja & Shri Khubchand Manwani stay here. One Hindi
'Namcheen' weekly Newspaper is published from here with a Sindhi Column. They
have published a useful Sindhi Directory which is worthy of seeing by every
Sindhi. They have also got arrangement of Ambulance Service. They strongly
desire that an all India Sindhi Coordinating Body should be formed at the
earliest, Sindhi programmes should be telecast on T.V. & viewed on Radio,
particularly when they are not arranged in M.P. The places worth seeing are 2
famous temples of Mata Tulja Bhawani Devi & Mata Chamunda Devi on a hill

Adipur. In the hostel of Tolani Foundation, 35 students and Teachers have died

meeting with them took place at Kranti Kripalani Nagar for over 2 hours wherein
various matters were discussed for strengthening the organization and for
preserving our Sanskriti, our rich culture and our spiritual values. The report
in a nut shell is as under:</span></div>

population of this big and important city is 24 lakhs including 1 lakh Sindhis
who mainly reside in big pockets like Larkana, Kranti Kripalini, Kamla Nehru
and Vasanshah Nagars as well as Katju, Jairampur, Triveni and Bhagat Kanwar Ram
Colonies. Nearly 60% of them speak in Sindhi, 5% speak in English (particularly
those who stay in posh localities and are in service) and the rest speak in
Hindi. They have only one Punjab Girls (Sindhi) High School with Sindhi
(Devnagiri) as one of the subjects but there is no Sindhi Primary School. The
city has 15 sindhi Dharamshalas and nearly 25 Sindhi temples including 2 Jhulelal
Temples, 1 Radha Swami Satsang Bhavan, 1 Prem Prakash Ashram of Swami
Teoonaramji and a big ashram of Sant Asharam Bapu.</span></div>

<span lang="EN-US">They celebrate
important festivals like Chetichand, Bhagat Kanwaram Varsi, Guru Nanak Jayanti.
etc. with big processions and langars. On the occasion of Chetichand, a big
procession is taken out with decorated colours and electric gadgets (with 80%
contribution of BSS Workers) throughout the important Sindhi belts wherein over
5000 people including the local population take PREETI BHOJAN. Moreover the
city has 4 statues of important sindhi personalities such as those of Bhagat
Kanwaram, Hemu Kalani, Dholumal Gera and Dr. Kamalkumar Sachdev. 2 magazines
are p<span style="font-family: inherit;">ublished by prominent Sindhis i.e. "Samrat</span></span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 12.0pt;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"> Dahar Sen" in Sindhi (Devnagiri) by Shri
Rajendra Sachdev & “Indore Mulakat” in Hindi (but with important Sindhi
activities) by Shri Nandlal Sachdev. They have 22 sindhi panchayats but no
central or general panchayat.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="FSCBody" style="text-indent: 36.0pt;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 12.0pt;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The BSS is active in the city. They have 100 active members who give
more importance to good character and behaviour. They celebrate Sindhi Smruti
day (14th August) every year. They also organize Swasthya shibirs (medical
camps), distribute good literature, propagate for eradication of social evils
like the dowry system and show and glamour, along with the co-operation of
other sindhi organzations. Shri Vishindas A. Moriani is president & Shri
Shankar Lalwani is Maha Mantri of BSS. The latter is also Parshad (BJP) and
chairman PWD, Indore Corporation.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

the Sindhis in this beautiful city are more or less well settled socially and
